A bit of a "bubbling under" - this week at least - the brand new song from Camera Obscura. I've only heard French Navy on the radio once, but I'm sure I'll hear it more frequently from now on. It's got that enthusiastic sound we've come to expect from the band, but I'll leave a full review for when I've heard it a few more times.
Blast from the past of the week - it's Tony Christie! Released on 16 March, Every word she said is a classic track from the classic crooner. The first time you hear it, you actually think it's a back-release from the 60s, so it's hardly revolutionary. But, if you like 60s music (as I do), you'll love it.
There's been plenty of songs that mention those classic lovers, Romeo & Juliet. And whilst none have come close to Dire Straight's version, I'm quite surprised that I like Taylor Swift's Love Story, released on 21 Feb. It's a quietly serene song, but with a semi-rock beat. OK, it's one of many from the mould of young American female singers; and yes it sounds like the theme to a Disney film - but that doesn't disguise the fact that it's actually a good song.
So, there's been an eclectic mix of songs today, and whilst it's not the TOTW this week, I feel I better try to salvage my reputation a little. I think the only reason that I'm not making Tonight's Today by Jack Peñate is that I've not heard it enough. It's got a wonderfully surreal opening, so it's one that definitely takes some getting used to - particularly if you can remember his previous output. To say it's different is an understatement. Chantey, slightly dreary, yet still uplifting in some strange way. Cleverly managed if nothing else.

She's an out an out country singer! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A6Dvdb6KUU. I've heard this a lot recently...even more so when in North America. Sheeesh
Of course, that video doesn't work in the UK - but even though she's a county star it doesn't stop it sounding like a Disney film...
Well - it worked for me last week...grrr. Youtube is so shit at the moment with it's music restriction policy to the UK.
